WHAT WE DID LAST SUMMER

WHAT WE DID LAST SUMMER

Over seven weeks in summer 2023, 66 women took to the track at Tameside Cycling Circuit in Manchester to participate in a new initiative by Jettes Cycling Community, which equipped women with skills and opportunities to race their bikes.

Geared at further reinvigorating the women’s cycling scene in Manchester, the sessions were an introduction to circuit racing and aimed to break down barriers, providing women, trans and non-binary riders with an inclusive, safe and fun space.

3 week series of two-hour sessions ran throughout summer on Thursdays from 7pm-9pm and consisted of skills and drills followed by a fun race and debrief – all run by a British Cycling certified coach, Sue Allen.

The interest from women across Manchester was high with support equally matched by local businesses such as Rapha, Northern Monk Brewery, Outdoor Provisions and Kickback Coffee who are providing marketing support, merchandise, coffee, energy snacks and beverages for the events.

To cater for all levels of ability there were a variety of tickets available including a spectator option for just £5, for those that may not be ready to take to the track but still want to listen to the coaching, gain some tips and be part of the atmosphere.

Session Format
6:45 – 7pm: Meet and greet
7 – 7:15pm: Pre-ride briefing
7:15 – 8:15pm: Coaching, skills and drills
